Review-

Alisha, a yoga instructor, and Zain, a real estate hotshot, are immediately attracted to each other. The two are consumed by a heady phase of romance until reality slaps them in the face. Deep into their relationship, the pair finds themselves on a precipice as things become more challenging. Zain is engaged to Alisha's cousin Tia (Ananya Panday), and Alisha is in a live-in relationship with her six-year partner Karan (Dhairya Karwa). Can their hidden romance withstand life's complexities?

With Gehraiyaan, Shakun Batra ventures into uncharted ground in Hindi filmmaking. Clearly influenced by Woody Allen's 2005 psychological thriller 'Match Point'. Can you be emotionally naked in front of the people you care about? If so, does the world make you regret your vulnerability?

Alisha, plagued by worry and burdened by the baggage of her unhappy childhood, is unable to let go of the evils that haunted her mother. Don't we subconsciously carry the weight of our parents' perceptions of love? Even in his last picture (Kapoor & Sons), Batra's honest observation of relationships and dysfunctional families is extraordinary. Nothing is on the surface. He attempts to interpret complex human behaviour and its effects through a difficult-to-narrate storey.

Deepika Padukone and Siddhant are both excellent in their parts. The picture unfolds slowly, almost like a thriller, and drags you into its deep, dark world. The protagonists' quiet is placed against the booming of the ocean, and cinematography and sound also play an important role.

The film has some lovely lingering moments. What does stick out like a sore thumb is the film's length and lack of clarity. The story digresses heavily in the latter half and makes you wonder where it is headed. Overall, the film has depth that's worthy of being explored.
